penn-2013

Palm Beach Gardens, FL (June 16, 2014) – Florida Credit Union Shared Services, Inc. announced PEN AIR Federal Credit Union as the winner of their Excellence Award in honor of their late CEO Nancy Dalton.  The awared is based on the evaluation of three selected criteria among all its participating credit unions:

  • Courtesy, professionalism, and friendliness toward guest members (Measured by Mystery Shopper Program)
  • The year over year growth in shared branching
  • The level of marketing and promotions of shared branching

“We are proud to have PEN AIR FCU as a partner promoting and utilizing the shared branching concept that can only be achieved with great cooperation that exists in the credit union industry” said Mike Yatros, CEO of the Florida Shared Branching Network.  FCUSS is affiliated with the national shared branch network and its participants contribute over 300 branch locations that make up the over 5,000 shared branch locations nationally.

We know, you know, they know!

Creating an awareness at a national level takes the cooperation of the network, the credit union and the members.  Together they create an awareness that cultivates a successful national shared branching network in line with the industry’s mission of ‘people helping people’ and the cooperative nature of credit unions.   Regional networks across the United States work with their participating credit unions providing them marketing materials, both physical and electronic, as well as training materials and videos for their members.  Each participating credit union is encouraged to promote shared branching.

Is shared branching working?

Networkstats2015

Evidence of its success is based on a simple fact that members use shared branching.  Shared branching transaction volume continues to grow year over year both in Florida as well as nationally.  Members continue to expect their credit union to provide them convenient ways to transact.  Shared branching provides the convenience of a branch nearby whether they’re near home, work, school or traveling.

People young and old still appreciate the convenience of being able to walk into a branch and work with someone in person.  When participating in shared branching through Shared Services for Credit Unions the credit union becomes part of the national CO-OP shared branching network giving their members access to nearly 5,500 credit union branches for access in all 50 states, as well as Puerto Rico, Guam, United Kingdom, Netherlands, Italy and Germany.  The national network logo, advertised by every credit union, creates a national stamp every participating credit union member has learned to recognize.

Convenience

Banking should be as convenient as your member needs it.  At the right time, in the right place, the right way.  Sometimes that means by mobile or phone anywhere, or by computer at home, work or travel, but sometimes it means the convenience of walking into a branch and conducting business in person.   That's the convenience that shared branching provides the credit union industry.

While Wells Fargo provides its customers with over 6,300 branches, Chase over 5,900 branches and Bank of America over 5,300 branches, being part of the shared branching network provides each participating credit unions members with over 5,400 credit union shared branches to walk into.

Shared branching takes the credit union philosophy of 'people helping people' to the next level of 'credit unions helping credit unions'.  Credit unions have been around since 1938.  Is there a credit union today who can, alone, match the big banks?  No, but that's where 'credit unions helping credit unions' comes in.  Just picture all 5,200 credit unions sharing their over 21,000 branches.
